Hiring Our Students

Information for Employers

Lear Career Services Center

The Lear Career Services Center provides comprehensive career services for all Broad students and assists employers in connecting with them.  Through Handshake, our online recruiting system, employers can post opportunities, schedule on-campus interviews and other company events, and register for career fairs and programs.   We also encourage employers to explore the website of the Lear Career Services Center where you will find MSU and Broad information, recruiting tips, information about career fairs and get access to Handshake.

Employers can post internship opportunities directly through the Lear Center and Handshake, or those wanting a bit more assistance with the process can post positions by contacting the department directly.  Many smaller companies and local employers do this and we encourage you to list part-time and full-time accounting related positions with us.

We use the term “internship” rather loosely to mean accounting-related work experience. The positions can be part-time or full-time and students have the option to receive academic credit for the experience. No special academic tasks are necessary on the part of employers. Many public accounting firms offer full-time internships during the “busy season” and students take the spring semester off from school (January-April) in order to work.  These students typically attend school in the summer to make up for the spring semester away. Some employers, especially those in the greater Lansing area, hire our students on a part-time basis so they can work and attend school at the same time. Most popular with our students is a full-time summer internship that provides an accounting-related work experience and an opportunity to earn money for the following school year.

Listing an internship is easy and can be done at any time. Simply complete the Company Information Form and fax or email it to us. We will post the position, collect resumes of those who are interested, and send these to you. You may then contact students in whom you are interested for an employment interview. Most employers conduct the interview at their place of business but we can also arrange for an interview room here on campus in our Lear Career Services Center.

Student Organizations

Employers often ask about how they can get involved with our student organizations.  There are three organizations specifically for accounting students as well as a variety of other business student groups.  Employers should contact the groups directly and can obtain information at their websites.
