Information for Employers

Lear Career Services Center

The Lear Career Services Center provides comprehensive career services for all Broad students and assists employers in connecting with them.  Through Handshake, our online recruiting system, employers can post opportunities, schedule on-campus interviews and other company events, and register for career fairs and programs.   We also encourage employers to explore the website of the Lear Career Services Center where you will find MSU and Broad information, recruiting tips, information about career fairs and get access to Handshake.

We use the term “internship” rather loosely to mean accounting-related work experience. The positions can be part-time or full-time and students have the option to receive academic credit for the experience. No special academic tasks are necessary on the part of employers. Many public accounting firms offer full-time internships during the “busy season” and students take the spring semester off from school (January-April) in order to work.  These students typically attend school in the summer to make up for the spring semester away. Some employers, especially those in the greater Lansing area, hire our students on a part-time basis so they can work and attend school at the same time. Most popular with our students is a full-time summer internship that provides an accounting-related work experience and an opportunity to earn money for the following school year.

Listing an internship is easy and can be done at any time. First employers must create a profile in Handshake and connect with Michigan State University.  If you already have a Handshake account, be sure you have connected with Michigan State University.  After you have created an account you can create your job posting.  Handshake is easy to use, but if you need assistance you will find detailed instructions in Handshake or you can call the Broad Lear Career Services Center at (517) 432-0830.

Important Tips for Posting Accounting Internships:

  • List the position as “Accounting Intern” or at least include these words in the title. Students search for these terms and it will make your position easy to find.
  • Be sure to select accounting majors in the requirement tab.
  • In the top right-hand corner under “help” there is a knowledge base with detailed instructions to assist you. If you need additional assistance, please contact the Lear Career Services Center at (517) 432-0830.
