How long does it take to complete the MS program?

All students complete the program in 12-18 months.  85% of our students graduate in 12 months and 15% graduate in 18-24 months.

How many students apply to the MS program each year? How many are admitted?

Approximately 360 applicants apply each year. Of those, around 180 are admitted and 150-155 enroll in the program.

What are the academic credentials of admitted students?

Admitted students from the 2016 class have an average undergraduate GPA of 3.66. Most admitted students have GMAT scores of 550 for domestic students and 670 for international students. In addition, our international students have an average TOEFL score of 104 or average IELTS score of 7.5.

What is the demographic breakdown of current MS students?

Approximately 75% of current students attended MSU as an undergraduate. The remaining 25% are from other universities including international students.

What is the approximate cost of the MS program?

The total approximate cost of the MS program is $39,000 for in-state residents and $60,000 for out-of-state residents. This amount includes tuition, room and board, and books.


When are the deadlines to apply?

      • January 15: For those wanting to start in the summer and fall semesters
      • March 1: A second round of review will occur after this date if space remains for summer and fall semesters
      • October 1: For those applying to start in the spring semester

For how long is my application valid?

An application for admission is good for one year beyond the initial application date.

Where should I send my transcripts, letters of recommendation, financial proof, etc.?

Our application system is on-line, we cannot accept any documents sent to the department. Any documentation received will not be considered part of your application.  Please do not send any transcripts to our office.  If you are admitted into our program, we will notify you of the required documents you need to submit.

I have A, B, and C credentials. Do I qualify for admission into the MS program?

We cannot predict your eligibility to the MS program until an application has been submitted and is complete. Please note that we will consider ALL aspects of your application.

What is the minimum GMAT/GRE score considered?

We admit applicants with a minimum GMAT score of 550 and/or strong GRE score.  Receiving this score does not guarantee admission.

What school code should I use for the GMAT/GRE?

The school code for the GMAT is QH0-5P-32.  The school code for the GRE is 1465.

Can I take the GRE instead of the GMAT?

Yes, the MS program will accept GMAT and/or the GRE.

I am an MSU student. How do I know if I am required to take the GMAT/GRE?

In order to waive the GMAT/GRE, an MSU student must have average grade point of at least 3.25 in the following areas:

      • Overall GPA
      • An average of 300/400 level accounting courses.

International Students

What are the minimum TOEFL/IELTS scores considered for international students?

We admit applicants with a minimum of either/or:

        • IELTS band score of 7.0 or higher
        • TOEFL score in any of the following.


        • 600 (paper score)
        • 250 (computer score)
        • 100 (internet score)

What school code should I use for the TOEFL?

The school code for the TOEFL is 1465.

When should I send my financial proof?

It is recommended that financial proof is sent once accepted into the program.

Does the MS program grant international students with “Conditional Admissions”?

No, the MS program does not grant international students “Conditional Admissions”.


When do I apply for scholarships?

We typically offer the scholarship application starting in December for students to fill out. The deadline for submission is around the third week in January. Applications to the MS program must be completed by January 15 in order to qualify for a scholarship.
