Resources for Financing your Education

Education—it’s a big investment. The following resources may be helpful to you as you explore financing your education

Scholarships/Fellowships– Last year the department awarded over $400,000 in scholarships to our undergraduate and graduate students.  Typically, the scholarship application is available starting in December of each year. The deadline for submission is the third week in January.  Applications for admission to the MS program must be completed by January 1 in order for students to qualify for a scholarship.  Please visit the department scholarship website for more information about departmental fellowship opportunities.

Graduate Assistantships– Limited opportunities exist within the department for graduate assistantships; however other departments on campus hire graduate assistants.  For more information, please visit The Graduate School website.

Financial Aid- Students should visit the MSU Office of Financial Aid to learn more about financial aid for graduate students.

Graders– Faculty may occasionally hire students to assist in grading assignments.  If you are interested in employment, please inquire with individual faculty members and also let the MS program director know you are interested in this type of employment.

Part-time Employment– Part-time jobs are available to students on and off campus. The Office of Financial Aid provides several student employment resources.  In addition, students should check local newspapers such as the State News and Lansing State Journal for position announcements. We also recommend visiting and/or calling local businesses and organizations of interest to you.

Full-time Employment at MSU– Some students work full-time on campus and pursue their graduate studies on a part-time basis. Information regarding employment opportunities at MSU can be found through Human Resources.
