150xNx426-thumbnail-150_jpg_pagespeed_ic_fV_o64S2ijI welcome you to the Department of Accounting & Information Systems in the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University.  The department attracts bright, ambitious students and is the home of some of the nation’s leading accounting and information systems faculty members.

Twelve years ago I was attracted to the department because it was strong on people, programs, legacy and relationships.  These strengths  hold true today and I am humbled by the opportunity to preserve this legacy and lead the department to even higher levels of excellence.  In our strategic thinking we are adopting a platform model approach to foster intensive collaborations between our stakeholders: students and alumni, faculty and the scholarly community, and businesses and employers.  I encourage your involvement in building a vibrant platform and welcome your participation.  Through this platform we can achieve our vision of being a global leader in creating and disseminating expertise in accounting and information systems.

  • Thank you for the grant, Foundation! ,
  • Mary Kate McHugh from gave a passionate presentation to students about marketing themselves for jobs! ,
  • Stop by the Union’s main lounge at 8pm to hear performances from MSU’s a cappella groups and get in the spirit of Homecoming.,

Yesterday, we were lucky to host Mary Kate McHugh, a passionate Googler from their Ann Arbor office! McHugh’s presentation went above and beyond a normal information session. McHugh related the top five qualities they look for potential New-Googlers in a personable way to show students into the culture of the company. At Google, they value collaboration, transparency, community, your whole self, and fun. These qualifications of their employees make it possible for Google to achieve great things.
McHugh also gave students tips about resumes and the interviewing process. She emphasized to know how you are marketing yourself towards companies. This includes tailoring your resume a bit to fit the job description, knowing what job you are applying for, making sure your answers in an interview match what is on your resume, and most important, is to be yourself. This event was an exciting experience for students to get a peek into who Google is, and how their employees are always reaching for the best.
